I saw this last night while I was getting my hair cut. I thought it was a pretty interesting documentary, has anyone else seen it and have anything to say? I'm interested in looking into the credibility of the story of the journalist dieing in the bombing of Baghdad.

That journalist DID die. I just bought the DVD a few days ago, it's a very interesting documentary indeed. When the general flashed the deck of wanted Iraqi cards at the press conference and then wouldn't let anyone seem them, that's just ridiculous. I think it's good because it highlights some of the human elements of the war, and shows that we have no justification for being there or doing what we're doing.

HOWEVER, it is also the sole news source of 90% of the arab world (I made that number up). So it CANNOT be ignored. At the very least we need to study it and say "Ok, this is how the arab world perceives us, how do we go forward from here."

Actually I'd say more Americans believe Fox NEWS than Arabs believe Al Jazeera. Al Jazeera is the correspondent for all of the Middle East so they're popular, however not all the stuff they report is completely false, and most Arabs go by news sources more reliable such as Gulf News, and Kaleej Times.
The Arabs who pretend to know the world around them just like you guys do know to look else where, good generalization though...
And Al Jazeera isn't the sole news source, you know there are individual countries and cities that make up the Arab world, please try to learn them.

Weve spent fifty years not taking any REAL action against any type of extreme Islamic views...if you think we dont understand that hate exist's within the middle east torwards the west then your an idiot. You just want us to accept their excuse for hating the west...not simply understand why.
and I would say that if Al Jazeera has that large a share of the Arab News World then you yourself might ask if that might be a monopoly on the info distribution. They already have way lower access to the internet ..the freeest exchange of info...and what one semi reliable news organization...and Im pretty sure cable isnt in 90% of the homes like in the west....so what are you trying to say phiz?
That one source for information is good for the Islamic Middle Eastern world? or that the fact they are exposed that much to truth or non truth is enough reason to take it seriously. I say if someone hate persist beyond logic that talking and self-analyzation only conquers SO much hate. Id agree if that was your point.

Jfos, I have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Seriously, it made no sense to me.
What I got from Control Room was that Al Jazeera was modeling itself after American cable news corporations. That they are biased towards what their audience will respond to, just like Fox. It really frustrated me. I did like that soldier, though, who was on throughout the movie. I think he kind of summed up alot for me. He seemed to be trying to see a human element and yet he had chosen and side in his mind. Alot of Americans aren't seeing the whole situation, only what is fed to them by the media.
I also was bothered by how most of the people were treating the war situation much like a debate, as people died around them. Much like we do on here. People are dying right now. Jfos, does it bother you that people are dying, or just that Americans are? Is war the solution to terrorism?
This is so fucking insane I can't stand it.

I completely agree with you, and I wish some people would have replied to my thread that I posted, with a link and some quotes from Rumseld and others, being caught in their own stupid lies by reporters about wmd's and how they now say "I never said Iraq was an immediate threat" or "we never said they had wmd's, we said our intelligence was sure of it".

I don't see any difference between crimes of terrorists and crimes of the American government. They should be equal, if they are the same actions, don't you think? If we violate the geneva convention, shouldn't we be held accountable the same way another, weaker nation would be?

The point of Control Room was to show what is behind the lens to an extent and I think it did so.
