I think the relevant point here is the ursurping of personal responsibility.

What I mean is. The federal government botched New Orleans. They have demonstrated that a single source "on high" cannot protect us.

The federal "big government" mindset rejects the idea of many small groups of citizens working to accomplish big things. This is the concept of decentralization and distributed processing. Ordinary citizens driving in supplies such as food, water, and medecine where turned away from entering the disaster area. While at the same time the federal government wasn't able to provide these things. What sense does that make?

It is rediculous that after demonstrating abject incompetance from protecting the citizenry, they goverment has the FUCKING NERVE to try to assume the role again by deprieving people of the ability to protect themselves.

The govenor of Texas said something very wise (maybe it was the Mayor of Houston or Gavelston). He said that they needed THE CITIZENRY to step up and check on elder or disable neighbors, and help them out.

I'm affraid that the idea of civic duty and the greater good are begining to suffer the same defeat as personal liberty :(
